Major push from Province at SA IPT
Western Province continued their comeback with a clean sweep in the Foursomes against Boland in the fourth rounds of the 54th South African Inter-Provincial, sponsored by Tempest, on Thursday.
After a first round loss to Central Gauteng, Western Province comprehensively beat Ekurhuleni and Southern Cape to get back into contention and started the fourth day just two points behind A-Section log leaders, Central Gauteng.
However, with Boland on the same score, the host union needs a victory to have a chance at challenging for glory on Friday.
The 2012 joint champions were pretty evenly paced through the first couple of holes, but Province piled on the pressure before the turn.
Cameron Johnston and Ian Snyman were first out and secured the first point with a 3&2 win, and Werner Theart and Drew Denyer took them to two points, winning the second game 2&1.
Aaron Russell and Luke Tracodo won 2-up and Gerlou Roux partnered Altin van der Merwe to a 2&1 win in the final game for a 4-0 result.
Central Gauteng and neighbours Ekurhuleni drew 2-all, while defending champions Gauteng North won the last two games to square their match against Southern Cape.
