Louis 57 edge ahead at SA Junior Club Champs
Martin Vorster, Christo Lamprecht and Marcus Smal has given the home crowd a reason to cheer after taking the first round lead in the Louis Oosthuizen SA Junior Club Team Championship on Monday.
The trio – all members of the 2010 Open champions’ Louis 57 Junior Golf Academy – combined for an opening total of 221 at Mossel Bay Golf Club.
Vorster led the way with a one-under-par 71, reigning Dimension Data Junior Open champion Lamprecht carded a 71 and Smal added 77 strokes to their tally. The fourth member of the team, Jordan Duminy, posted a non-counting 79.
The leaders have a two stroke edge over neighbours Fancourt and lead Paarl Golf Club by five shots.
Bradley de Beer and Ben van Wyk contributed respective rounds of 72 and 73 to put Fancourt on the attack and a 78 from Alex van Wyk cemented their second spot in the standings.
Daniel Cronje anchored Paarl with an opening 74, while Tyran Snyders and Ethan Smith contributed 75 and 77 to help the team to third spot.
