Loubser claims Nomads SA Boys at Fish River
Britain’s Herman Loubser completed his winning march at the Fish River Sun Country Club in superb fashion when he romped to a six-shot victory in the Nomads SA Boys U-15 Championship on Tuesday.
After earlier rounds of 71 and 72, the 14-year-old Isle of Man golfer completed the wire-to-wire victory with a blistering six-under-par 66 that featured five birdies, an eagle and lone drop.
Although KwaZulu-Natal’s Luke Mayo enjoyed an equally solid day with four birdies and two bogeys, his closing 70 left him well off the winning mark set at seven under 209 by the Englishman.
Fancourt golfers Alex van Wyk and C Lamprecht shared third on three-over-par 219 after carding respective rounds of 72 and 71.
Loubser was born in South Africa but spent the last 13 years in the United Kingdom.
The reigning Ilse of Man Under-18 Boys Champion will soon be back on home soil and should quickly become a familiar face on the South African amateur circuit.
“We are moving back to South Africa and my parents, who are both teachers, will relocate to Aggeneys where they are starting a school,” the young teenager explained.
“Aggeneys is in the Northern Cape, between Pofadder and Springbok, but we haven’t even been there yet. We spend the festive season with family in Johannesburg and then drove down to the Fish River Sun, so I could participate in this championship and get my feet wet. “
While his younger brother will live in Aggeneys with his parents, Loubser will be heading to Paarl Boys High.
Loubser, who is fluent in both English and Afrikaans, is fired up about the move to the Boland after this auspicious start to his season.
“I’m really excited about the move and the new school,” said Loubser.
“I hope to join the golf team as soon as possible and find a club to join. I’m really excited that I could get my career off on a high note here at home and I just want to build on that going forward.”
