Lohbauer breaks through at Proshop Gauteng Champs

After an impressive performance in the recent Sanlam SA Amateur Stroke Play Championship, Bianca Lohbauer from Paarl broke through for her maiden provincial victory in the Proshop Gauteng Strokeplay Championship on Sunday.

The Boland golfer excelled at the lengthened Bushwillow course at Randpark Golf Club to claim a one stroke victory over Gauteng’s Natasha Carlsson on three-over-par 147.

Lohbauer navigated the 5,930 meter layout in rounds of 72 and 75 to edge out Carlsson, who came agonisingly close with rounds of 75 and 73.

Border Championship winner Zethu Myeki continued to impress.

The Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation player from Border recovered from an opening 78 and closed with a 71 to finish two strokes off the pace in third.

Former number one ranked Carrie Park also showed a return to form with successive 76s to take fourth place on 152.

Fourteen-year-old Woo-Ju Son, who won the World Amateur Golf Audi Reunion on Reunion Island last month, eagled the first hole in the second round en route to a 74 and a share of fifth on 154 with Western Province’s Cara Gorlei, recent Free State and Northern Cape champion Kaleigh Telfer form Gauteng and Danielle du Toit from Gauteng North.

Sheryl Matthews pleased the home crowd when she scored a 12-stroke victory in the B-Division. The Randpark golfer carded rounds of 81 and 79 to triumph on 160. Valda Ford, with rounds of 87 and 85 took second on 172, while Randpark’s Alice Taylor finished in third place on 174.

JUNIORS

Natasha Carlsson lifted the Junior Championship title on 148, while 13-year-old Symone Henriques also eagled the first hole and won best nett in the Junior Championship with a 73.
