The magnificent Highland Gate Golf & Trout Resort is the destination for this month's Staycation competition.

Local travel is great and can be much better for the environment!

Our old nemesis, the oil price, is on an upward march again, which will make everyone’s wallets thinner!

This product’s price oscillations have a well-documented inflationary effect on just about everything, and it is interesting to note that most of those goods and services, which went up because of an oil price increase, never seem to come back down when the oil price dips!

One of the immediate impacts comes in terms of travel costs, whether by air or road, which contribute directly to the overall price of any vacation, even when the inflationary pressures, at other levels, have still to make their presence felt.

Petrol will not be cheap again for a while, so it is a thought that travelling around, other than by air can help Mother Nature, which makes a Golf Staycation better for your budget and the environment!

The other item of good news is that the Golf Staycations product is gaining traction, and the first two GolfRSA competitions, with the Sandton Sun Hotel and RJ&K and the Beverly Hills Hotel teamed up with Gateway Shopping Experience and Mount Edgecombe Country Club provided winners in the form of: Pauline Blundell and Frank Montgomery.

Good news for travellers: international flights are returning to normal.

More ‘partners’ are coming on line, and one very important element is that this product is open to ALL of South Africa’s golf clubs, so if you want to join the Golf Staycation roll out, the option is just a phone call away (John Cockayne on 073 896 7931), and we can help you package up the right solution for your particular regional target markets.

It is also important to remember that Golf Staycations are designed to offer the opportunity for a family getaway (don’t just take your golf clubs – bring the family too!), and are not necessarily limited to regional golfers, which proved to be the case, as GolfRSA had many ‘out of province’ entries, for both the Gauteng and KZN competitions.

The KZN Golf Staycation winner is, in fact, from Gauteng, and has taken the opportunity to package his prize at the Beverly Hills Hotel in with a longer family vacation at the coast.

International travel is on the move again, as shown by the flight tracking pictures to the left, but this type of travel is a ‘complicated’ business, especially for us with the country’s low vaccination levels, and although we are off the UK’s travel red list, for the moment, it is a volatile environment and who knows when this might change.

All of this combines to put a real shine on local vacations, especially if there are deals to be found, which can take the edge off the travel costs!

The next competition, which has just gone live with GolfRSA, offers you the chance to win a fantastic Golf Staycation in Mpumalanga including; 3 nights’ accommodation and 2 rounds of golf including golf carts, courtesy of Highland Gate Golf & Trout Estate and The Irish Rock, a SATOUR 5 star graded guesthouse on the estate.
