Lara wins Kenako Junior Girls in nail-biting final round

Lara Weinstein entered the last round with a commanding 5 shot lead, but after 9 holes, Cara Gorlei had caught her fellow South African after playing an impeccable level par front 9. Lara steadied her game and took back the lead after a birdie on the 11th. Both girls then matched each other with pars until Cara birdied hole 16, to once again draw level with Lara. Cara then drove into one of the penal fairway bunkers on the 17th hole and dropped a shot, allowing Lara, who made par, to move back into the lead. Both girls made par on the 18th hole to leave Weinstein the winner by one shot, a scenario that had looked unlikely after the first nine.

The best round of the day was played by Bianca Theron who shot a 1 under par 71 to move up into a tie for 3rd with Ji Sun Kang who closed with a 74. The 2012 WJGS number one player Czilla Lajtai Rózsa finished with a 77 to drop into a tie for 5th place with Kaleigh Telfer.

In the Boy’s Division, a play-off between Jade Buitendag from East London and Robert Burlison of England resulted in a win for the South African to keep the SA flag high on both the girls and boys leader boards. The best final round from the boys came from Robert Bougas (Strand Golf Club) who carded a 6 under par 66 and tied for 10th place.
