Lara is ninth on the leader-board at the Annika after another one-over 73.
Both Lara Weinstein and Izel Pieters returned good scores during the second round of the Annika Invitation being played at the Reunion Resort in Florida, USA this week. Lara is tied ninth after another one-over 73 – the first time SA has had a player in the top10 ten – and after a nervous first round, Izel Pieters came back to record a good four-over 76 on this very difficult course.
Round two was played in temperatures reaching 28C in contrast to 2010 when the players were pictured throwing snowballs at the airport!
Erica Lefson reports, “Lara played superb golf. She had a slow start with a missed birdie opportunity on one, and dropped on two and three. She then holed a great 15ft putt on the fourth and pared to the eighth where she dropped a shot and was really mad as this is an easy par five! She saved herself on the ninth with another great 18ft putt from a top to bottom tier to make birdie, turning one over.
“The wind came up and golf became a bit more interesting – but not for Lara. After dropping a shot on the 11th when she three putted into the wind, she played steady golf paring her way to the 18th hole where she putted from off the green, hurrying up after they had just received their second red card of the round. She holed the putt for a birdie and posted the same score as round one, a one-over over 73 to put her tied in ninth position.
“Playing much steadier golf, Izel was only two over after 12 holes and then had a double on the fourth (her 13th). She came back with a birdie on the sixth and a drop on the seventh. She then has two great putts on her last two holes to card a four over 76.”
