Lara in third position as she heads to final round in Jakarta

Lara Weinstein, with rounds of 77 and 75 (152) is in third position as she heads to the final round of the Jakarta World Junior Championship being played in Indonesia this week. The girls’ competition is 54 holes while the boys play an addition round – 72 holes.

Tristen Strydom lies in sixth position in the boys 13 – 14 age division after a good score of 75 yesterday. He is on 232 (78,79,75).

Erica Lefson reported that Victor Lange carded a four over 76 on day three. “He had a bad start – pushing his shots right – and was four over after five holes. He then settled and played solid golf with a few birdies to compensate for any more drops and he held his score at four over. He is in 11th position on 242 and unlikely to catch the leader, Singapore’s Joshua Ho, on 222.

“Tristen Strydom really played good solid golf on the first nine but let his game go a bit on the back nine. He could be scoring so much better if he could keep his concentration going – an odd wild shot results in drops and at other times the ball is so solid down the middle that it is always a surprise to see the odd wild shot – he ended with a 75 that could have been so much better.

“Lara played flawless golf for most of her round – hitting the ball solid and straight but once again the greens were not kind – birdie opportunities were not taken and in fact she has only had one birdie in the tournament – on the par five sixth today. She had drops at 8, 10, 14, and 16 and ended her round on three over 75.

“Bianca Theron seems to really be enjoying the experience – very mad at herself for some of her shots but always positive. She has Connie Chen’s 2010 caddie who speaks some English so they chat along the fairways and she has been a great help to Bianca. Again her game off the tee is solid… shots into the green much improved. Two double drops spoilt her score – which included two three- putts. Her 78 was not a reflection of how well she is hitting the ball. On her first trip abroad, the challenge has been the very different grass and the speed of the greens.”

After the final round and prize-giving today, the team head to the airport and arrive home tomorrow, Saturday.
