Lara celebrates a great six under par victory in KZN
After her nine-stroke landslide victory at the KwaZulu Natal Stroke Play Championships played yesterday at Maritzburg Golf Club, 17-year old Lara Weinstein must be a firm favourite to pick up the coveted Nomads SA Girls’ Rose Bowl at Pearl Valley Golf Estate next week.
Lara finished on six under par with rounds of 70 and 68 (138) from Cara Gorlei and Alana van Greuning tied on 147. Francesca Cuturi (Randpark) and Monja Richards tied fourth on 148 and three players Bianca Lobauer (Paarl), Bonita Bredenhann (Serengeti) and Nobuhle Dlamini (Centurion) carded 149 to be tied sixth.
Lara is enjoying an excellent season in her final school year after indifferent golf in 2011. In January, she won the Western Province Junior Championship and was runner-up in the Boland Junior Championship. February saw her victorious in the Border Championship and in March she won the SA KeNako Juniors, an international junior tournament played at Kingswood Golf Estate.
KZN President Molly Whitaker reports “The event was played in near perfect conditions and Lara’s golf was a pleasure to watch. She was very gracious in her speech before she and her father rushed off to the airport while prize-giving continued. We were delighted to welcome 27 players from outside KwaZulu Natal.”
The Match Play championship continues today.
