Lamprechts leads logjam at Wingate Park

Erhard Lambrechts fired an opening four-under-par 68 to lead the Liberty Gauteng North Open at Wingate Park Country Club on Friday, but there is a large crowd looming in the Bolander’s rear-view mirror.

No less than six players are chasing his heels, with Gauteng North’s Keegan Mclachlan and Andrew van der Knaap leading the chase.

The local favourites grabbed a seat on the bus at three-under alongside with Malcolm Mitchell from KwaZulu-Natal, Free State’s Therion Nel, Ekurhuleni’s Burt Gildenhuys and Ruan Groenewald from Mpumalanga, who set the early target in the morning field.

A further six players finished just two off the pace, while Golf RSA / SAGA number one Marco Steyn played his way into the group of nine at one under.
