KZN NOMADS JUNIOR PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Magda Kruger proved that the weather did not affect her determination to take the honours at the final Junior Championship of the year. The scheduled 54 Hole event was reduced to 36 holes due to torrential rain with lightning and thunder interrupting the first day’s play. After 18 holes, Bianca Lohbauer from Paarl led the field with a score of one under par 71. She was followed closely by Magda Kruger from Centurion Country Club on 73 and local KZN player, Michaela Fletcher from Pietermaritzburg Golf Club on 77.

With heavy rain overnight the players teed off on Day 2 on a very soggy course but despite the heavy conditions, Mae Cornforth from Potchefstroom and Carrie Park from Irene both shot a very good 3 under par 69. However, they could not catch Magda who played solidly and posted a total score of 147 (73, 74) to become the 2012 Nomads KZN Junior Champion. Carrie Park settled for 2nd position on 148 (79, 69) with Mae Cornforth and Bianca Lohbauer tied on 150 in 3rd position.

The winner of the Silver Division was Kim de Klerk from Pollak Park on 180, and runners-up were Jade Gray and Lauren Sobotker, both from Western Province, on 185. The Bronze Stableford Division was won by Caitlin Pillay from Port Shepstone with Courtney Sykes from Mount Edgecombe in second position. Two Durban Golf Club girls did well in the Copper Division, with Celiwe Biyela taking the top prize and Pretty Maci finishing second.
