KZN and EP tussle on the cards at SA IPT

Eastern Province have some serious competition in the B-Section battle for promotion after KwaZulu-Natal stormed to the top of the log in the third round of the 54th South African Inter-Provincial, sponsored by Tempest.

After coming through the first two rounds at Westlake Golf Club unscathed, Eastern Province enjoyed a well-deserved bye on Wednesday. However, KwaZulu-Natal took advantage of their absence and crushed Limpopo 10-2 to inch ahead in the standings.

Although the teams are tied on eight points each, the 2010 champions have 41 games points and lead Eastern Province by nine points.

“We took a hit when we lost to Eastern Province in the second round, but the guys really rallied to get us back into the fight,” said KwaZulu-Natal captain, Gavin Sole.

“This win against Limpopo really helped our case, because it can come down to games points on Friday. We have a bye tomorrow, but we can’t count on Free State to do us any favours.

“We need to bring everything to party on Friday and make sure we win.”

North West beat Free State and Border 7.5 – 4.5 and rose to third in the standings with seven points.

Meanwhile Border celebrated their first victory at this year’s championship with a 7.5 – 4.5 result against Free State.

The side slipped into fifth in the standings on two points and lag just four games points behind Free State.
