Kyle Scott becomes an All American as his college wins Nationals

Several West Florida players earned national awards to finish out the 2008 National Championship season. On the strength of five consecutive tournament team victories, the Argos captured some top honors as a result of the impressive season. Both Kyle Scott of South Africa and Tobias Rosendahl were awarded First Team GCAA Division II Ping All-American honors, with Matthew Galloway earning Second Team All-American honors. Scott and Rosendahl were also named to the National All-Freshmen team. “All of these players worked very hard this season and were certainly very deserving of these awards,” commented Head Coach Steve Fell.

Under Head Coach Steve Fell’s guidance, the Argos individually turned in some tremendous performances, and received a plethora of awards throughout the 2008 season.

Kyle Scott was the individual champion at the South Region Tournament with a nine under par, 204, and joined teammates Matthew Galloway, Otto Bonning, and Tobias Rosendahl on the All-Region team. Scott had nine top-ten finishes and finished the NCAA Championship tournament tied for third place with UWF’s Matthew Galloway. Scott finished the season ranked #34 in the GolfStat Cup ranking for all NCAA divisions, and averaged a 71.53 stroke average and earned three tournament victories throughout the season.

The Argos team finished number one in the nation in both the final Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches Poll and the final GolfStat rankings. West Florida captured seven tournament titles, including five wins in the last five tournaments of the season, to cap off an amazing run to the national championship.
