Kim wins fifth provincial championship in 2011
From an entry of 38 players in the A division, SA Stroke Play Champion Kim Williams (Centurion Country Club), easily held her nerve to take her fifth 2011 provincial championship by seven shots from top junior Lara Weinstein who plays off scratch. Kim is currently stroke play champion in the Eastern Cape, Border, Gauteng and Gauteng North and match play champion in Gauteng North.
Mpumalanga’s Alana van Greuning held onto third place with a 54 hole gross score of 229 from Henriette Frylinck(Gauteng North) and Bonita Bredenhann (Namibia) who were counted out and ended up in fourth and fifth places respectively.
Lara recorded the low round of the tournament when she carded two-under 70 on the final afternoon, but Kim’s two below par rounds ensured that she was safely home, seven strokes ahead of the field.
Lol Jones reports, “The Boland Nomads Open was held this year at Strand Golf Course, a coastal course which is never to be underestimated! The A Division players were lulled into a false sense of security by the benign weather conditions on Sunday, but reality hit on Monday when the wind started to pump! The scores in the second round really reflected the extremely difficult playing conditions, but by the third round, many players had made the necessary adjustments to their game and the scores reflected this.
“Many thanks must go to our title sponsor The Boland Nomads, and we were extremely pleased that Captain Peter Runkel was able to present the trophies.”
