Kim Williams successfully defends her Gauteng Championship title

SA Stroke Play champion Kim Williams consolidated her place as SA’s number one amateur woman golfer when she won the 36-hole Gauteng Stroke Play championship at Rand Park’s Windsor Course yesterday, 9 May 2011 on two-under 142 (74,68).

One stroke back from Bertine Strauss (73) after round one, Kim came back with a four under 68 in the afternoon to successfully defend the title which she had won in 2010 at Johannesburg Country Club.

Bertine Strauss was runner-up on 145 (73,72), followed by SA’s second ranked Iliska Verwey one stroke back on 146 (76,70).

The three players are all members of SA’s national team hoping to bring home the coveted Astor Trophy from the UK next month. Other players in team are Henriëtte Frylinck and Tiffany Avern-Taplin who carded disappointing 161 and 166 respectively.

The 10 – 18 Handicap Division was won the 10-year old Woo-Ju Son on 167 (82,85).

The match play events commences today, Tuesday 10 May.
