Kim Williams picks up double on home turf
Continuing the form displayed at the Astor Trophy when she won all her singles matches and defeated the world number one amateur in the world, Kim Williams lifted the Gauteng North Match Play Trophy yesterday, having won the Stroke Play Trophy earlier in the week.
In the final, she defeated Bertine Strauss 4/3, after victories over Nobuhle Dlamini 2/1, Biance Barnard4/3 and Lora Assad 5/4.
On her way to the final, Strauss recorded wins over Gina Switala 1 up, Izel Pieters 2/1 and Emma-Jo du Bruin 6/4.
One of the most closely fought encounters was when 13-year old Eleonora Galletti came up against former SA Match Play Champion, Nobuhle Dlamini in the first round and took her to the 19th before conceding victory. Eleonora won the first three holes, halved the fourth and won the fifth to go four up after five. Nobuhle fought back to three down at the turn and the match was all square at the 18th. But Eleonora’s bunker shot at the 19th fell back in to the bunker and she had to concede defeat.
The A Division was won my Nicole Loesch with a 6/4 victory over Eugenie Clack. Eugenie had defeated her younger sister Marné in round one.
Valda Ford won the B Division match play with a 4/3 victory over 12-year old Jamie-Lee Daniels.
