Kim picks up second ‘double’ in 2011

SA Stroke Play Champion Kim Williams picked up her second ‘double’ of 2011 when she defeated team member and foursomes partner Henriette Frylinck 2/1 in the final of the Boland Ladies Amateur Match Play Championship played at Strand Golf Club this week. Earlier this year, she won the Gauteng North stroke play and match play championships.

On her way to the final, Kim had a 3/1 win over Gauteng’s Chevonne Botha and then overcame Mpumalanga’s Alana van Greuning 5/4.

Henriette defeated young Marne Clack 1up, WP’s Cara Gorlei 4/3, North West’s Nicole Becker 3/2 before losing 2/1 to Kim in the final. Enjoying the lovely weather conditions and a well prepared course, both girls played some spectacular golf in the 18 hole final, with plenty of birdies in succession.

Lol Jones reports “In the B Division, Linky Malan, from Paarl Golf Club, had a wonderful game against 12 year old Jamie-Lee Daniels from the Eastern Cape, finally winning on the interesting par three, 17th hole by a 2/1 margin. Linky commented that she was so impressed with Jamie-Lee’s game, her consistency and in particular, her short game skills. Linky is sure that she has a wonderful future ahead of her.

“Anine Annandale, also from Paarl Golf Club had a great battle with local Strand player, Colleen Legg to finally win on the 18th 1 up despite Colleen holing a 20m putt! Anyone who knows Colleen will appreciate how well Anine had to play to win this title.

“Anine is a Boland Junior Squad member whose game is really starting to mature. The Boland Juniors have been lucky this year to have attended workshops at the Centre for Human Sciences at Stellenbosch University within the department for Girls’ Leadership and Sport Academy run by Academy Manager Jenny King and the results are starting to show.

“All the matchplay games were exciting to watch and were played in a competitive but respectful manner. We again would like to thank Strand Golf Club, their staff, Lady Captain, Sara Koopman and all the members who enabled us to host this prestigious event in such a wonderfully prepared coastal course.”
