Kim on a roll as she wins the KZN double

KwaZulu Natal attracted most of South Africa’s top women golfers to the provincial championships played at Kloof Country Club this week. After the closely contested stroke play championships, a very strong field of ladies competed in the match play event. In the bottom half of the draw, stroke play runner-up Pam Hayward succumbed to young Izel Pieters at the 19th and after another 19 hole battle, Izel was finally beaten by the more experienced finalist Suné du Plooy.

In the top half, Kim was taken to the 21st by Johmari Logtenberg, now quietly working her way up the WGSA rankings after only one year of competitive golf. After her 4/3 win over junior Biance Barnard, Kim then had a mammoth battle against SA’s number one ranked player, Bertine Strauss, to win 2/1. Kim’s 4/3 victory against Suné assured of the championship double and justifies her number two WGSA ranking publishd today.

The other sections also had double winners! The 10 – 18 handicap match play championship was won by Mo McCann when she beat Gauteng Junior Jackie Michler 2 up and Maureen McGibbon won the 19 – 33 Bronze championship with a 5/4 victory over Jenny du Preez. Both these Mo and Maureen had earlier won their respective stroke play championships!
