Kelli Shean tied second in US Women’s Open

South Africa’s World Amateur Team selection, Kelli Shean, carded a one-under 70 to lie in joint second place after the first round of the US Open being played at Oakmont Country Club from 8 to 11 July.

Starting on the 10th tee in the afternoon, Shean dropped at the par five 12th but then birdied the 13th (par 3), 14th (par 4) and 16th (par 3) to finish the nine on 33. Coming back, she dropped at the 9th to complete her round on a one-under-par 70.
Leading the strong field is Brittany Lang (USA) on -2 69, and Kelli shares second place with Koreans MJ Hur, Amy Yang and Inbee Park, all on 70.

In a field of 156 top players, Kelli leads the 27amateurs, and tees off on the 1st today at 7am (US time).
