Kaminski leads OC to Mid-South Crown
Less than a week after Central Gauteng dedicated their South African Inter-Provincial Championship victory to former team member Rupert Kaminski, the South African won The Mid-South individual crown and rallied the Oklahoma City University Stars the team title at Sand Creek Station Golf Club.
Parkview Golf Club’s Kaminski, who barely started his freshman year, earned a one-shot victory in his second career collegiate start.
OCU, ranked third in NAIA men’s golf, came from behind to claim a two stroke victory over fourth-ranked Johnson & Wales from Florida.
Kaminski’s rounds of 67-70-72–209 at the par-72, 7,111-yard course was one better than William Houlding, who plays for second-ranked William Woods in Missouri.
Oklahoma City combined for rounds of 288-286-283–857 to erase Johnson & Wales’ first-round one-shot edge.
Anthony Marchesani, a senior from Rosebud in Australia, returned rounds of 72-71-71 and Chechotah senior Zac Oliver carded 77-74-65. Local junior Garrison Mendoza posted rounds of 74-71-75 and Scott Verplank, a senior from Edmond, had 75-75-76.
The Stars play in the NAIA Preview on 19 and 20 October at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
