Juniors head for Jakarta

A South African junior team departed from OR Tambo yesterday to compete in the Jakarta World Junior Championships. The team, pictured above, is Tristen Strydom, Victor Lange, Lara Weinstein and Bianca Theron. They are accompanied by Erica Lefson.

Lara, on her fourth visit to this championship, will play in the 15 to 17 age group (Class A) and Bianca participates in the 13 – 14 age group (Class B). The two will also compete in the team event in which South Africa has done well in previous years.

For the first time two boys travelled with the girls. Victor Lange competes in the 15 – 17 group and Tristen Strydom in the 13 – 14 group. The event takes place at the Damai Indah Golf, Pik Course in Jakarta from 7 to 10 June.

This is the fourth year that South Africa has participated in this event. In 2008, Monique Smit won in Class A and she and Lara won the team event – The Governor’s Trophy.

In 2009, Bertine Strauss 74 tied in first place but lost in a play-off and together with Lara, was second in the team event.

In 2010, Connie Chen was runner-up in the Class A and she and Kirsten Campbell were runners-up in the team event.
