Japan and USA Students triumph at Sun City

Marion RecordeauAfter four days of perfect weather, the World University Golf Championship ended with the Japanese men and the American ladies taking the teams spoils.

While the Japanese team were run away winners (9 shots ahead of Spain and Great Britain), the USA ladies were made to fight all the way to the end to claim their third successive World University Golf Championship. The Swiss ladies went into the final round leading the USA by one shot and the French by four but once again the Gary Player layout’s last four holes proved decisive as the USA team held on for victory.

The individual winners played superb golf over the always tough Gary Player country club course. Leonardo Motta of Italy won the mens individual medal with rounds of 68 72 72 78 and a two over par total of 290 while long hitting Marion Ricardeau won the ladies individual gold medal with scores of 80 71 76 72 and a 11 over total of 299.
