Jan-Carel takes the GNGU Etonic Open
With rounds of 70, 70 and 71 = 211 (-5) Jan-Carel Nel kept the Gauteng North Etonic trophy at “home“.
With western province team mates, Charl Coetzee and Christiaan Basson leading the field into the afternoon round, Jan-Carel played solid golf and set what ended up being the winning total. It was an agonizing wait however, as the winner was not known until after a ruling had been seeked after completion of play.
Having completed his round (but prior to signing and returning his card) Charl Coetzee questioned a possible infringement of the Rules that had occurred earlier in the day on the 16th hole. After gathering the facts it was agreed that Charl had breached a Rule of Golf (Dec 13-4/35)and the subsequent 2 shot penalty resulted in Charl looosing the title by a single shot.
Four other golfers ended the tourmnament on 213 including KwaZulu Natal Open Champion Michael van de Venter. The lowest round of the tournament went to M. Daffue with a 66 in the 3rd round.
