Iliska is the best of the SA Players at British Amateur

Iliska Verwey made a solid start at the British Open Amateur Champships being played ar Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland this week when she carded a one-over 75 to finish tied 28th.

Even though her putter went cold in the middle of the round where she felt she could have picked up a few more shots, she was happy with her game and is looking forward to improving on her performance in the second qualifying round being played today, Wednesday 8 June.

Bertine Strauss, finishing with a +4 and tied 67th, is confident she can finish in the top 64. She started with a double bogey but managed to stay calm and kept it together pretty well. She struggled with the putter a bit but is looking forward to a good day on the course today.

Although Kim Williams wasn’t feeling too well and the cold rainy conditions didn’t help, she managed a +6 and will be giving it her all to qualify for the match play.

Tiffany Avern-Taplin and Henriette Frylinck were bitterly disappointed with their performances, and the par 74, 6400 yard Royal Portrush links got the better of them. They acknowledge that the chances of making the last 64 is pretty unrealistic, but will use round two as a good experience for what lies ahead next week at the Astor Trophy.
