Higgo’s purple patch continues in the USA

Fingers crossed for Boland junior Garrick Higgo, who starts the match play stage of the 69th US Junior Amateur at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee tonight. The 17-year-old De Zalze golfer carded rounds of 75 and 72 in the weather-interrupted stroke play qualifier to tie for 30th on three over 147.

Just a week ago, Higgo punched his ticket to the US Amateur Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club in August. The reigning Curro SA Junior International Boys Champion beat out 54 amateurs in the USGA Amateur Qualifier at Peach Tree Golf and Country Club to take the medallist honours.

Houston’s Travis Vick, who won the qualifier on eight under 136 with rounds of 64 and 72, hopes to follow Major champion Jordan Spieth into the winner’s circle as the seventh amateur champion from Texas.
