Higgo leads strong field for Glacier Series

Boland golfer Garrick Higgo will seek to continue his winning form when he leads a strong field that will tee it up in Monday’s Glacier Junior Series tournament at Royal Cape Golf Club.

The tournament, played in recognition of the career of South African women’s golf legend Sally Little, is the fourth on this year’s Glacier Junior Series and the second in the Western Cape.

Higgo, a past winner on the series, is clearly one of the favourites after back-to-back victories in two big amateur tournaments recently.

The young star comes into this tournament having won the Boys Division in the Curro SA Juniors International in Durbanville and then the Pro Shop Northern Amateur in Johannesburg.

One of Higgo’s biggest challengers will be Western Province’s Luca Filippi, who finished second in the Rodney Hess Tournament on the Glacier Junior Series at King David Mowbray Golf Club earlier this month.

Daniel Cronje, the winner of that event, is also in the field at Royal Cape on Monday.

This year the Glacier Junior Series also features one of the young stars of the South African Disabled Golf Association, with Ignation Douries teeing it up at Royal Cape.

The A Division winners at each of the 16 tournaments on the Glacier Junior Series will qualify for the National Final to be played at San Lameer Country Club from 5-7 October.

The winner here qualifies for an all-expenses paid trip to tee it up in the prestigious Junior Orange Bowl International tournament in America in December.
