Good start for Kim in 2011.

Top ranked Kim Williams picked up the first 2011 senior provincial championship trophy on Sunday when she scored a one-under 143 (68, 75) to win the Eastern Cape Women’s Stroke Play Championship played at Port Elizabeth Golf Club.

Kim is seen receiving her trophy from Nolan Vasi, Area Sales Manager for Nedbank Corporate in the Eastern Cape.

Three strokes back was her Daisies’ foursomes partner Henriëtte Frylinck on 146 (69, 77) and Eastern Cape’s Iliska Verwey followed in third position on 147 (70, 77). Tied in fourth place on 149 were Lejan Lewthwaite (Gauteng) and Bertine Strauss (North West).

Humewood’s Shelley Saunders won the 10 – 18 handicap division on 170 (91, 79).

The first round of the Match Play produced some interesting results – Gauteng North’s Cheronne Botha knocked out Kim Williams 3/2 but was beaten 2/1 in round two by Tanica van As (KZN). The other ‘upset’ was when Bertine Strauss succumbed to five handicapped Ilze Britz 3 up. Humewood’s Ilze subsequently lost 3/1 to PEGC’s Nicole Fourie.

In the semi-final being played today, Tuesday morning, Tanica van As meets Nicole Becker and Nicole Fourie plays against Iliska Verwey. The 18-hole final will be played this afternoon.
