GN and Limpopo lay it all on the line at SA U-19 IPT
Gauteng North will bring heart and soul to their final tussle against Limpopo as the two sides face off in the A-Division relegation battle at the South African Under-19 Inter-Provincial at Krugersdorp on Friday.
The teams are tied with zero points at the bottom of the log after four successive losses each, however, Gauteng North has 15 games points in hand and will take an eight point lead against Limpopo into the final showdown.
The side lost their opener against Ekurhuleni 9.5 – 2.5, went down to defending champions Central Gauteng 7.5 – 4.5 and lost by the same margin against Southern Cape in the third round.
The young team put in a brave effort against log leaders Western Province in the weather-interrupted fourth round, but Province took the match 8.5 – 3.5.
“We are looking down the barrel of the gun, but the boys are incredibly motivated after a solid performance against Province on Thursday,” said manager Andre Louw.
“We struggled with our Foursomes pairings over the first three rounds, but the two halves we gained against Province on Thursday was very encouraging. The other two matches were close, too, and we want to carry that momentum into a solid start against Limpopo.
“The lads know they have to bring everything to this final match and I am quietly confident that they will deliver.”
Ofenste Nukeri and Nicholaus Frade will launch the team’s final challenge in the first Foursomes against Robert Fatana and Franco Putter.
Clifford Thompson and JP Cooper will go off second, facing off against Gerhard Pepler and James Vorster jnr.
Estiaan Conradie and Stefan Wears-Taylor, who claimed the first halve against Province on Thursday, will combine again against Franco van Zyl and Jaco Linde.
Albert Venter and Rosswell Sinclair, who forced their Foursomes against Province’s top two, Altin van der Merwe and Luke Trocado, to stale mate, will take on AJ Smit and Cameron Nesmith in the final pairing.
