Gilly Tebbutt shoots lowest score of Mid Am at Kingswood
Despite local knowledge, Southern Cape players are being closely challenged by players from other provinces in the 2nd round of the Kingswood SA Women’s Mid Amateur Championship. Hall of Famer, Gilly Tebbutt from Western Province, took full advantage of the perfect weather conditions on the second day of the championship and shot the only sub par round recorded (71). Gilly said she was much happier with her score, an improvement of 10 shots over yesterday. According to her the putter was definitely working much better.
The Championship is still being led by Sandra Winter with a total score of 149 (74, 75) with Gilly 3 shots behind on 152 and Kate Brett-Castle from KZN one further back on 153. With the scores so close tomorrow promises to be a very exciting day.
Esme Orr from Southern Cape continues to perform although today she dropped a few shots and came in with an 83. She still has a commanding lead with her closest competitor being Lynn Slogrove from Eastern Cape, 11 shots behind on 171. Last year’s B Division winner, Lenza de Jager (Gauteng North) and Linda Jordaan (North West) are tied 3rd on 175.
The “C” Division leaders, Ria Louw and Corlia Douglas, both from Boland, are tied on 70 stableford points, followed closely by Marita Durant from Southern Cape on 69 points.
