Gauteng North makes solid comeback at SA U-19 IPT
Gauteng North bounced back from a first round defeat with a solid performance in their second round Foursomes against Central Gauteng, while Southern Cape dominated Western Province and Limpopo gave Ekurhuleni a scare in the A-Section at the 2014 South African U-19 Inter-Provincial at Krugersdorp Golf Club.
Gauteng North vs Central Gauteng
Ofenste Nukeri and Clifford Thompson went down 5 & 4 to Dean Martin and Fritz Orren in the first game and the defending champions gained another point when David Meyers and Marco Steyn defeated Estiaan Conradie and Stefan Wears-Taylor 3 & 1.
However, Nicholaus Frade and JP Cooper put Gauteng North’s first point on the board when the pair fought from two down to beat Karabo Mokoena and Keelan van Wyk 1-up.
Albert Venter and Rosswell Sinclair took the lead at the sixth hole and handed Dylan Naidoo and Rupert Kaminski a 7 & 5 hiding to square the match at 2-all.
“The guys all showed up with renewed spirits after our loss against Ekurhuleni and rallied hard to put us on equal footing with Central heading into the Singles,” said manager Andre Louw.
“Ross and Albert were especially impressive. We are still on the back foot and need a win today, so we need to carry this momentum into the Singles.”
Southern Cape vs Western Province
The Garden Route side served up a solid performance to take a 3 -1 lead over Western Province.
Hans-Jurie Human and Aidan Boon won 2 & 1, Cameron Moralee and Caylum Boon triumphed 3 & 1 and Jovan Rebula and Franklin Manchest scored another touchdown for Southern Cape when they downed Luke Trocado and Altin van der Merwe 4 & 3.
But Noel Anderson and Alistair Snowdon prevented a clean sweep when they downed Jabulane Mabilane and Alex van Wyk at the last hole.
Ekurhuleni vs Limpopo
Ruhan van Dijk and Chris van Tonder set the tone for Ekurhuleni with a 6 & 5 win against Limpopo’s Robert Fatana and James Vorster Jnr and top pairing, Tristen Strydom and Paul Boshoff, took them to two points with a 2 & 1 result against Franco van Zyl and Jaco Linde.
Dylan Mostert partnered Sentanio Minnie to add a half point in their game against Franco Putter and Gerhard Pepler, however, Kyle McClatchie and Jason Froneman were handed a drubbing by AJ Smit and Cameron Nesmith.
The Limpopo duo birdied the fourth, notched four successive birdies from the sixth and eagled the 10th before sealing a 7 & 6 result with a birdie at the par-five 12th.
