Frylinck leads the field at Langebaan

Gauteng North A’s Henriëtte Frylinck leads the WGSA 72 Hole Teams Championship Individual competition by four strokes from North West’s Bertine Strauss as the players head into the final round to be played at Langebaan Golf Estate. Round four is to be played tomorrow, Wednesday 25 May – the first players teeing off at 8am.

In persistent rain, Frylinck carded a four under par 68 in the morning second round and continued her good form in round three with a one under 71 to total level par 216. Her Gauteng North A team leads the Swiss Team Trophy on 438 from Southern Cape A and Mpumalanga on 453 and look to defend the trophy they won last year at Graceland in Mpumalanga.

The players started their day optimistically in cool benign conditions but as two cold fronts came through this attractive West Coast village, conditions deteriorated with the wind picking up during round two played this morning. Although the wind dropped during the afternoon, rain persisted and players were soaked as they returned their scores. This is the first event in which Women’s Golf have not used caddies and pulling carts in the rain must have aggravated the difficult conditions.

SA Stroke Play Champion and Gauteng North Captain Kim Williams carded a two-under 70 this morning, and another below par score was returned during the morning round by Southern Cape’s Nicole Loech on one under 71 to pull her team up to second position on the log.

North West B, headed by Suné du Plooy on 229 (78, 77, 74) leads the B Division Challenge Trophy on 478, just four shots ahead of Southern Cape B.
