Frittelli wins second Collegiate Title
University of Texas sophomore (second year student) Dylan Frittelli registered his second career collegiate victory on Thursday 18 March when he fired a 2-under 70, in the final round, and secured a three-stroke win at the 83-player 54 hole National Invitational Tournament at the par 72, Omni Tucson National Golf Course, in Tuscon, Arizona.
Frittelli, who trailed fellow South African Johan de Beer and Joakim Mikkelsen by one shot heading, into the final round, finished at 6-under par, 210, ahead of Bryce Hanstad and Mikkelsen.
De Beer is studying at the Texas Christian University (TCU), in Fort Worth Texas, struggled through his final round eventually finishing tied 12th after a five over par 77.
In following Collegiate golf, knowledge of the terminology used is quite important. The statement: ‘The Longhorn overcame the Horned Frog’; might be complete gibberish to most. However translated it means the Texas University student overcame the student from TCU!!
De Beer and Frittelli, who incidentally both come from Pretoria, have been showing good form on the collegiate circuit of late. The week prior to the National Invitational Tournament both players played in the SH Collegiate Masters held in the Southern Highlands, Las Vegas, Nevada. They finished tie 5th three shots off the pace.
