Frittelli Second after 2nd Round cancellation

Dylan Frittelli18 year old Dylan Frittelli, of Irene Country Club in Gauteng North, managed to finish his first round yesterday, in the 54 hole Barrett Amateur Championship being played in the town of St Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada. He recorded two birdies on the back nine, to add to that he recorded a day earlier on the front, to finish on 68, three under par, and one shot off the pace.

One hundred golfers from six countries are playing in this competition held at the picturesque seaside Algonquin Golf Couse (par 71).

The first round was scheduled to recommence early yesterday, with six groups still to complete their rounds. But like the first day, fog moved in and play only started at 09h30, a two hour delay.

The second round finally got under way at 10h00 however later on that afternoon thunder storms moved in and at 17h19 play was suspended. Less than half the groups had completed their round so the organisers cancelled the second round and declared that the prestigious Barrett Amateur Championship, which attracts World Amateur Golf Ranking points, will now be decided over 36 holes. The final round will commence today, as a two tee start, at 08h30 local time.

Texan John Peterson, also had to complete his first round yesterday, and did so in style, recording a birdie and par over the last two holes. He recorded a four under par 67, giving him a one shot lead over Matt Parziale (US) and David Markle (CAN), who are tied with Frittelli.

Jacques Blaauw, the 22 year old Paarl Golf Club member, is still in the hunt. He started his round yesterday but go caught up in the storm and will have to settle for the score he recorded on Saturday, a 70, one under par.

Cameron Johnston, of Milnerton Golf Club in Cape Town, suffered the same fate as Blaauw, only he had almost completed his round by the time the storm broke. He is on 74, tied in 31st position. He will have a lot of work to do today if he is to make any impression on the leaderboard.
