French Team Victors

Despite relatively mild conditions and “home” ground advantage the South African team went down 7.5-4.5 to a young and spirited French team.

Having tied the mornings foursomes 2-2, the South Africans got off to a quick start in the afternoon as half way through the front nine the South African side got their noses ahead. As the tempretures dropped and the breeze picked, up the fighting spirit of the French came through as they dominated the middle part of the round. By turning small deficits into comfortable margins the French side had to wait till there was only one match left on the course to confirm the win. By taking the singles 5.5-2.5 the French team secured the test win against South Africa by a 7.5-4.5 margin.

Twenty seven years later and to the day (2 March 1979), the French were able to avenge the loss at the hands of the South Africans when thes two teams last met.
