Free State & Northern Cape continue their winning ways
Defending champions Free State and Northern Cape continued their winning ways in Tuesday’s second round of the South African Country Districts Inter Provincial taking place at the scenic Devonvale Golf and Wine Estate outside Stellenbosch.
Playing the newly promoted Eastern Province, Free State and Northern Cape recorded a win by 7.5 points to 4.5, in the A Division of the competition.
The score belies the fact that Eastern Province turned in quite a plucky performance. Having lost three of the four foursomes matches in the morning, they fought back in the singles to the point where the two teams were level at 4.5 points each, with three matches undecided. However they lost the last three singles matches, all but one going to the last hole.
In the only other A Division match, Kwazulu Natal beat Mpumalanga comfortably 9 points to 3.
Free State and Northern Cape lead the log with 4 points, two clear of second placed Kwazulu Natal.
With Free State and Northern Cape having the day off, we could see Boland with four points by the end of tomorrow. They play Mpumalanga who are yet to record their first win.
There are still three rounds to be played, the final round taking place on Friday.
In the B Division Southern Cape and Limpopo remain undefeated and are ranked first and second respectively on the Log. Southern Cape beat North West Province 7.5 points to 4.5 and Limpopo overcoming Border by 7 points to 5.
It will be a big day for both teams in Wednesday’s third round, the two leading teams play against each other. The winner of this match putting themselves in a good position to win the B Section and gain promotion to the A in 2012.
