Five birdies contribute to Bertine’s Western Province Match Play win
Western Province President Ros de Klerk reported that 16 players from the 9 and under handicap division qualified for Match Play on Tuesday and a further 8 for the Flight Division. “There were no real shocks in the first round of the match play – probably the closest match being between Gilly Tebbutt and Nicole Becker. Gilly managed to win on the 16th hole. In the quarter finals Monique Smit defeated Kim Williams 2 up and in a very close contest Bertine put out Gilly Tebbutt on the 18th green. Both semi final matches were nail biting – Yvette finally ended Tanica van As’s good run in the championships and Bertine defeated Monique.”
The final between Yvette and Bertine started with a lost ball on the first hole – putting Yvette on the back foot right from the start. She however played good golf but just could not match the 5 birdies by Bertine who finally won by 5/4 margin.
Milnerton’s Nadya Ritchewald defeated Olivia le Roux 2 up in the Cecile Shaw B Division and young school girl Bilqees Adhikari carried home the Standley Cup with a 3/2 win in the 19- 28 handicap division.
