Filippi edges clear at Africa Junior Open

Western Province’s Luca Filippi will be chasing his second junior title this season when he tees off in pole position in the final round of the Africa Junior Open on Monday. The country’s number two ranked junior will be looking to convert a one shot lead into victory but he could come under pressure from Jayden Schaper – already a two-time winner this season – and Kian Rose from Central Gauteng.

The Milnerton golfer opened with a five-under-par 67 at the Fish River Sun Country Club and added a second round 72 to take control at five under 139.

Schaper from Ekurhuleni carded rounds of 72 and 68 and Royal Johannesburg and Kensington’s Rose followed an opening 74 with a blistering 66 to pull within striking distance of the 36-hole pacesetter.

Alex van Wyk from Southern Cape, Eastern Province’s Kyle de Beer and Chris Woollam from KwaZulu-Natal will start the final round a further stroke adrift on 141.
