Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation Girls’ Champion for 2012

At the end of 2011, Izel Pieters from Mpumalanga was ranked 2nd on the WGSA Junior Order of Merit. She decided to put all her energies into her matric studies during 2012, and having only played in 7 tournaments, she finished the year in 13th position. However, she showed that she hasn’t lost her touch when she beat her EEFF peers at their annual Championship held at De Zalze Golf Club last week. She posted a 36 hole score of 148 (73, 75) two shots ahead of Kelly Erasmus 150 (73, 77).

Izel will now focus on her golf until she leaves for the United States on a golf scholarship in August. She will be studying at Mississippi State University in Starkville. Her goal before she leaves for the USA is to regain her top 5 position on the WGSA Senior Rankings that she held in April this year.
