EP keeps up pressure at Westlake

Eastern Province are in a strong position heading into the second round Singles at the 54th South African Inter-Provincial, sponsored by Tempest, on Tuesday.

Buoyed by their double triumph in the opening round, Mzuyanda Zingela led his charges to comprehensive victories in the Foursomes at Westlake Golf Club.

Eastern Province defeated KwaZulu-Natal 3-1 and scored a clean sweep against Border.

“The guys have been very committed and we are in a solid position ahead of the singles,” said Zingela, who is making a record 23rd appearance for his province in the country’s premier team championship.

Zingela combined with David Konzani to beat Border 3&2 and KZN 1-Up, while Ryno Ferreira and rookie Hando Brody defeated Border 2&1 and claimed a 3&2 result against KZN.

Fezekile Kana and Andile Adam combined for a 6&4 win against Border and defeated KZN 3&2.

In the final pairing, Sieg Human and Naldo Claassen lost to KZN at the last hole, but rallied to beat Border 4&3.

Border’s Fellow Ngantweni may have lost his game, but he did have a good reason to celebrate after scoring his fifth career hole-in-one with a wedge at the par-three third.

In the other matches, KwaZulu-Natal led Border 3-1 while Mpumalanga claimed a 3.5 – 1.5 lead over North West.
