EP & Free State at stalemate in SA IPT
The fourth round Singles in the battle for B-Section promotion at the 54th South African Inter-Provincial, sponsored by Tempest, could turn into a humdinger after Free State held Eastern Province to a 2-all draw in the Foursomes at Westlake Golf Club on Thursday.
Skipper Mzuyanda Zingela and David Konzani took the first scalp for Eastern Province with a 1-up victory in the first game, but Free State brothers Stephan and Heinrich hit back to win 1-up to square the match.
Fezekile Kana and Andile Adam put Eastern Province back on attack with a 2&1 result, but Blaine Dormehl and Juran Dreyer retaliated for Free State and handed top order pair, Sieg Human and Naldo Claassen, a 3&2 drubbing.
KwaZulu-Natal hammered Limpopo 10-2 on Wednesday to take the number one spot in the standings while Eastern Province was enjoying a third round bye.
The teams are tied on eight points, Eastern Province lag nine game points behind.
With the boys in black spending a leisurely day at the hotel, Zingela’ charges need a comprehensive victory to get back to the top and boost their games point ahead of the final round, but they will have to pull out all the stops in the Singles to stop the Free State assault.
In the other matches, Mpumalanga scored a clean sweep against Border and scored 2.5 points against Limpopo, who beat Border 2.5 – 1.5.
