EP back to winning ways at Indwe Senior IPT
Eastern Province was in ascendancy again as they fought their way to a podium finish in the B-Section of the 27th INDWE SA Senior Amateur Inter-Provincial just 12 months after relegation, while the Southern Cape Super Seniors celebrated success in Benoni.
Eastern Province gathered nine points over four days of intense battles, superb shot-making and pressure putts to win the promotion battle by three points from of new arrivals, Northern Cape, at Benoni Country Club on Friday.
Mzuyanda Zingele and David Konzani, who led Eastern Province to B-Section victory in the Premier Inter-Provincial last year, steered Ace Nqana, George Koen, Frans Kana, Willie Prince, Patrick Totyi and Colin Mavuso to 10 – 2 first round victory against neighbouring Border.
The champions took into pole position in the standings and never relinquished their lead.
Eastern Province cemented their advantage with an 8.5 – 3.5 victory over Boland in round two and a 7 – 5 result against Northern Cape in the third round.
They carried a three point lead into the final round and sealed 72-hole dominance in Ekurhuleni with an 8 – 4 victory against Limpopo.
Super Seniors
Southern Cape’s Super Seniors has such a successful campaign that the side wrapped up their victory in just three rounds.
Southern Cape’s John Mitchell, Peter Hodson, Colin Short and Hans Giesen burst from the blocks with a 6 – 0 win against Free State and a 5.5 – 0.5 result against Northern Cape on day one to take the early lead.
The quartet defeated Eastern Province 4.5 – 1.5 and had their only draw in the country’s largest senior amateur championship when they squared 3-all against Border on day two.
The Garden Route team claimed a 4 – 2 victory over Mpumalanga and edged out North West 3.5 – 2.5 to finish their week in pole position.
Mpumalanga finished second with six points and Border took third on five points.
