Ekurhuleni, Gauteng North make solid starts at SA IPT

Ekurhuleni got their South African Inter-Provincial campaign off to the ideal start in the Foursomes against Western Province at Glendower Golf Club.

Gerlou Roux and Altin van der Merwe were given a walkover by Kyle McClatchie and Ernest Botha as McClatchie before the Foursomes start, but the rest of the side rallied to win the remaining games to forge a 3 – 1 lead ahead of the singles.

“Kyle is a matriculant and had to write an exam, so we gave the game to Province,” said Ekurhuleni captain Hugo Delport. “I had faith that the rest of the team would pull together.”

Dylan Mostert and Sentanio Minnie defeated Drew Denyer and Werner Theart 3 & 2, while Paul Boshoff and Teagan Moore eliminated Luca Filippi and Sean Bradley by the same margin.

Carlo O’Reilly and Michael Sherriff pushed Rowan du Preez and Angus Ellis-Cole all the way to the last hole, but the Ekurhuleni pair prevailed to win 1-up.

Central Gauteng and Eastern Province drew 2-all, while Boland edged ahead against Southern Cape to lead 2.5 – 1.5.

In the B-Division, Gauteng North scored a clean sweep against Limpopo.

Jason Smith and Teaghan Gauche handed Quintin Crause and Menno Malherbe an 8 & 7 hiding to set the tone for the 2013 champions.

Marco Loubser and Andrew van der Knaap added a point with a 4 & 3 win, Keegan de Lange and Hendrikus Stoop bumped their tally to three when they clinched a 4 & 2 victory.

James du Preez and Rosswell Sinclair secured a 4 – 0 lead when they beat Hilton Hughes and Cameron Nesmith 1-up.
