De Jager still on top in the golf rankings

Louis de Jager, the Centurion Country Club and Gauteng North golfer, is still South Africa’s top ranked amateur golfer according to the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) and South African Golf Association’s Player Rankings released this week.

The twenty year old South African Amateur Champion moves up eight places to 34th in the WAGR, after finishing 5th in the Limpopo Open, which was played at Polokwance Golf Club over the weekend. He has a total of 861.54 points.

Twenty three year old Ruan Botha, who plays out of Randpark Golf Club in Central Gauteng, is the next highest ranked South African on the WAGR, in 62nd place with 817.65 points.

In 73rd position is 20 year old Tyrone Ferreira, from Reading Country Club in Central Gauteng, with 800 pts.

The No.1 ranked amateur golfer in the world is still Jamie Lovemark from the United States of America (US) who has 1113.33 points, 40 points clear of his nearest rival, also from the US, Billy Horschel. The US dominates the top end of the rankings with five players in the top six positions.

On the SAGA Rankings de Jager is comfortably in front with 36.25 points, 8 points clear of second placed Ruan Botha.

Adrian Schwartzel, 19 year old who plays his golf at Maccauvlei Country Club in Central Gauteng, is ranked 3rd 26.45 points.

The biggest mover at the top end of the on the SAGA Rankings is 20 year old Coenie Bester, the winner of last weeks Limpopo Open. The Mpumalanga player from Middelburg Golf Club shot up 20 places to 14th in the rankings with 11.52 points after his fine performance.
