De Jager and Ferreira Tee up for South Africa

De Jager Tees OffLouis de Jager and Tyrone Ferreira will represent South Africa in the 72 hole Copa Juan Carlos Talihade amateur stroke play tournament, starting today at the Los Largartos Country Club, Buenos Aires, Argentina. This annual tournament has attracted entries from 16 international teams, including defending champions England.

De Jager, the Sanlam South African Amateur Champion, and Tyrone Ferreira, currently ranked No. 1 amateur golfer in the country, will team up to represent their country in the team competition of this event. This competition takes the aggregate score of each player in a team for each round, the lowest aggregate, on conclusion of the final round wins.

There is also an individual competition in which the two players will also participate in. In the field, playing as individuals, are the two players’ Southern Cross team mates, Ruan Botha, 23 year old Randpark Golf Club member, and 26 year old Johan du Buisson, from Kuils River Golf Club.

South Africa first entered a team in this competition in 1997. Trevor Immelman and Ulrich van den Berg played, both of whom are enjoying differing levels of success on the pro tours of the world, won the team competition while Immelman walked off with the individual honours as well. A feat repeated by Albert Kruger in 2002.
