Daisies and Limpopo victorious at Irene

14 August 2024 – Gauteng North made the most of their home course advantage to sweep to victory in the Championship Division in the 2024 South African Mid-Amateur Inter-Provincial, while Limpopo lifted the Silver Division trophy for the first time in 30 years at Irene Country Club.
A venue renowned for its strategically placed hazards, and challenging greens, the Centurion club provided a true test of skill and resilience for the competitors in this thrilling high-stakes team event.
In each of the four rounds of the IPT, the brisk, chilly mornings added an extra layer of challenge the Foursomes, where strategy and teamwork were crucial to lay the foundation for the exciting afternoon Singles, where players pushed themselves to the limit, with many matches going the full distance.
At the end of day one, local favourites Gauteng North were deadlocked with neighbouring Central Gauteng and 2023 Silver Division champions Southern Cape, but as action wrapped up on day two, Gauteng North and Central Gauteng pushed into the lead.
The Daisies had opened up a slight advantage with game points, and pressed ahead on the third day, delivering another winning performance. Central Gauteng suffered their first defeat to give Gauteng North a two-point lead with one round to play.
The Daisies sounded their intent At the end of four days of intense competition, Gauteng North emerged victorious with an unbeaten performance, edging neighbours Central Gauteng for glory in the Championship Division.

After three rounds of intense battles, it was still too close to call in the Silver Division.
Free State had seized the lead on 8 points and 18 game points and went into head-to-head with Eastern Province in the final round.
But Limpopo, tied for second with Eastern Province and just one point off the pace, saved their best for last and claimed a historic victory after halving with Border and beating Mpumalanga.
Their stunning triumph on 10 points ended a 30-year winning drought for the province, reflecting the determination and skill they showed throughout the event.
Eastern Province trumped Free State to finish as the runners-up on 9 points.
