Crunch time in promotion battle at SA IPT

The battle for promotion at the 54th South African Inter-Provincial, sponsored by Tempest, is set for an epic showdown between Eastern Province and KwaZulu-Natal at Westlake Golf Club on Friday.

Eastern Province reclaimed pole position after a third round bye when they scored a narrow 6.5 – 5.5 victory against Free State on Thursday.

Carrying a two point lead into the final round, Mzuyanda Zingela’s charges are committed to carrying their unwavering determination to victory against Limpopo and celebrate their skipper’s record 23rd SA IPT appearance in style.

However, 2009 champions are equally determined to win their last scrap against North West.

Eastern Province leads on 10 points, but KwaZulu-Natal has a slight edge in games points.

“KZN has 41 game points and we have 38.5,” said Eastern Province team manager, Sieg Human.

“Things could get hairy for us if KwaZulu-Natal adds to Limpopo’s losses this week. If they win big and we come unstuck against North West, we are in trouble.

“North West has shown three times this week that they don’t give up without a fight and we expect our last match to be a battle to the end.

“We will come out with the same focus that carried us this far and fight to the finish.”

In the other B-Section matches, Mpumalanga rose to fourth in the standings after beating Border 8-4 and defeating Limpopo 7.5 – 4.5. Limpopo won the final round against Border 8-4.
