Connie wins again on -3 to par at 54 hole Free State Championship

Waterkloof Junior Connie Chen continued her run of victories when she added the Free State and NC Championship to her trophy cabinet. Playing in the 54 hole championship at Bethlehem Golf Club, Connie carded 213 (72, 68, 73), -3 to par to clinch the championship, one stroke ahead of Namibian Bonita Bredenhann on 214 (69, 73, 72). Bonita lead after the first round when she returned a three-under 69, but Connie came back with a four under 68 in the afternoon and held on to win the event yesterday.

The low round of the tournament came from past Springbok cricketer Johmari Logtenberg when she signed for 67 in the final round. Other sub-par scores came from Talia Nel – 70 in round three – and from Emma-Jo de Bruyn who carded 71 in the same round. Talia will be joining Connie Chen and Lara Weinstein to play in the Harder German Junior Masters and the Girls’ British Open Amateur in August this year.
