Connie fourth on the Harder leaderboard going into the final day.

After another one-under 71, Connie Chen goes into the final round of the Harder German Junior Masters on -2, alone on fourth place. Lara Weinstein also returned a 71 and she and Talia Nel who scored 78 yesterday, are grouped together to lead the field teeing off at 7.30am today.

Erica Lefson reports “Connie played steady golf but the difference between a good score – the girls she played with in round two were five and three under – was that she was not hitting her nine and higher irons from 80 meters close enough to the pin to ensure birdies..

“Connie had only one three putt on the 16th and was in the bunker for her drive on the first – both resulted in drops. But she had birdies at the sixth – a good eight foot putt, birdie on the par five tenth where she hit the green in two and just missed eagle. She nearly holed her third on the 17th for birdie.

“Talia dropped three shots on each nine. One was a three-putt and the others missing the greens and not getting up and down in regulation. Her scores are what we would expect from someone on her first trip and feel that with this experience we will see her grow in confidence.

“Lara was a pleasure to watch. After dropping on the 12th (her first nine) where she missed the green and did not get up and down, she scored her first birdie of the tournament at the par three 14th where she almost holed out with her tee shot and had a tap in for birdie. This was followed by another birdie at the 15th.

“A great birdie at the 18th from about 12 feet was followed by a birdie on the first after hitting her third to within four feet. The first wait was on the third and resulted in a hook into the hazard – but playable sideways and just one shot dropped.

“The next birdie came at the sixth and then after a half hour wait at the seventh tee she was lucky to make her par after putting her drive in the bunker. She had a great drive on the eighth but pulled her second into the greenside bunker and took two shots to get out, resulting in a double drop. Luck with a sandy at the last par three ninth enabled her to finish one under and an improvement of 13 shots on her first round.”
