Connie Chen wins first event of the year

17-year old Waterkloof Junior Connie Chen won the first women’s event of the year – the Gauteng North Junior Championships – played at Service golf Club on Sunday 24 January. Her rounds of 72, 73 gave her a total of one over par 145.

Rustenburg’s Bertine Strauss, after a two under par 70 in the morning, dropped six shots in the afternoon to finish three strokes back on 148. In third place was Larissa Ras from Glendower Golf Club on 150. Connie and Bertine will be representing South Africa at the Annika Invitational for the second time from 12 to 15 February at the Reunion Resort in Florida, USA.

In the 10 to 18 B Division, Twane Grobler, playing off a 13 handicap, won on 166 (87, 79), six strokes ahead of Harn-Yunn Huang on 172 while Bridget Rodriques finished one shot back on 173.
