Connie Chen is Compleat Golfer’s 2010 Top Women’s Amateur

Connie Chen was awarded the 2010 Compleat Golfer South African Woman Golfer of the Year Award by WGSA Vice-President Cynthia Rayner at a glitttering function held at the Johannesburg Country Club, Woodmead this evening.

Now a professional, Connie was the only amateur to achieve a partial exemption for the 2011 European Ladies Tour. She unfortunately just missed full exemption in a four-way play-off for full exemption, with only one to qualify for the coveted 30th place.

She had outstanding year in 2010, winning the 72-hole Individual Stroke Play Championship, the 54- hole SA Girls’ Championship, Gauteng North and KwaZulu Natal Junior and Senior Championships, the North West Championship, Gauteng Stroke Play Championship and the Southern Cape Championship. She is also the Gauteng North Match Play Champion.

Connie played for the Gauteng North team, current holders of both the Pick & Pay Interprovincial (team member of winning team for the last four years) and the 72 hole Team Championships which the team won in 2008 and 2010.

She was the youngest member of the 2010 World Amateur Team Trophy South African Team – South Africa ended up with a bronze medal – 3rd in the world. This surely the highlight of her career.

In 2010 she represented South Africa as a junior at the Jakarta Junior World Championships and British Girls Championships and received her Senior colours when she represented South Africa at the WATC.

WGSA congratulates 18-year-old Connie and wishes her a successful professional career.
